When the ancient People of Faith were making their way out of Egypt they felt safe and positive about their journey. The Pharaoh had given them permission to leave safely. But it wasn’t long until he caved into pride and greed: He may have asked himself, how could a greatly esteemed Pharaoh like me be pressured by Moses, a little esteemed shepherd? The Pharaoh had to be aware of the economic hit that Egypt would suffer because they would lose over a million low or no income workers who slavishly labored in building monuments, pyramids like structures, and agriculture. Pharaoh assembled his army and pursued them with vengeance.
God directed the People of Faith to take a route which pinned them between the Egyptian army and the Red Sea. They had no option to run. God’s people were harnessed between a ferocious and formidable Egyptian army and the tumultuous waters of the Sea. The choice was surrender to slavish conditions, die by the sword, or drown. Yet God made a way where there was no way (Isaiah 43:14). As the Egyptians got closer to them, God parted the Red Sea! The People of Faith passed through on dry ground; no sinking in the mud and not one person drowned.
This miraculous deliverance convinced the People of Faith that when we have no earthly options if we turn to God He will come to our aid. And if all our support systems have deteriorated, if we trust in Him we will learn that trusting in God is enough.
