Whole or Half-Credit

There is nothing in the natural world which God is not the original source. All the motions and characteristics of the natural world are second causes; such as the seasons, weather patterns, characteristics and instincts of plant and animal life, movements in the atmosphere and space – to mention a few. These are the wonders of nature. Yet, we should acknowledge that God is the original source of these second causes. Paul wrote in Colossians that all things were created through Him and for Him. And He is before all things, and in Him all things are maintained.

When we experience what the natural world offers, we should refrain from giving half-credit to God by giving whole-credit to second causes. It seems the more we understand second causes in nature, we are more determined to rest in them, instead of ascending to God because of the wonder of them. Our understanding of second causes should lead us upwards as a result of the the mystery of His works in creation. For without doubt the heaven and the earth declare the Glory of God. We should give God whole-credit for all gifts that nature provides.
