Religion Beyond Reason

This Sunday the People of Faith will celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Jesus miraculously rose from the dead after being viciously crucified on the cross and laid to rest in a lonely tomb. The resurrection was a milestone and turning point in human history. And because Jesus rose from the dead we have been given the privilege to have a victorious relationship with God and receive the certain promise of eternal life in which in the likeness of Jesus we will also be raised from the grave to live in God’s presence for forever and forever.

The Christian Faith is a reasonable faith. The more we know the truths that are offered in the Word of God the more we see how reasonable they are. And the more we know about our faith the more we know how reasonable it is to be a person of faith. This is what Paul was getting at when he praised the excellency of the knowledge of Christ.

Yet, the very foundations of Christianity which are given to strengthen our faith is curiously unreasonable to many; for spiritual truth can only be understood through the eye of faith in which we apprehend what we do not fully or always comprehend. The resurrection is one of those miraculous truths among many others in Scripture in which only by faith do we hold a fixed conviction that might seem unreasonableness to some but reasonable to us.

Although some could think that our religion is beyond reason. Yet, we know through the eye of faith that what might be unreasonable to many is true; for if the same Spirit that raised Jesus from the grave dwells with us, and in us, He will convince us of the truth as well as the efficacy of the resurrection. And not only the resurrection but all the miracles that have been given in Scripture which strengthen our resolve in life and faith.

One of the differences between Christianity and other persuasions is the abundance of supernatural happenings. Miraculous events which have anchored the Christian faith as it has unfolded in the historical record of the Old Testament church; continuing onward to the Life and the Resurrection and Ascension of Jesus Christ.

There are at least fifty-five miracles in the Old Testament outside of the many supernatural interventions that were offered and experienced by the Ancient Church. In the New Testament record Jesus performed thirty-seven miracles in only a three year period. We are also in a state of wonderment at the supernatural birth, resurrection, and ascension of Christ. I am not particularly fond of the term religion, yet like no other religion the Christian faith is clearly a Religion Beyond Reason. We will be celebrating this conviction this weekend in Christian churches around the world when we celebrate the resurrection of Christ.
